New process-engineering solutions for cellars and brewhouses

Krones AG has premiered a new solution for brewing processes, called Boreas, designed to ensure controlled evaporation of unwanted aromatics from the hot wort.

Solutions in breweries’ process engineering, particularly brewhouse operations and cellar technology, constitute a major focus in what Krones AG, Neutraubling, Germany, will be exhibiting at Brau Beviale 2010.

On the basis of Botec F1, Krones has developed an intelligent route management system for process control technology applications, setting new standards in terms of automated tank farms. For a product transfer in the cellar, DynaRoute determines the right link between source and destination, taking the system’s status into due account, controlling and coordinating the routes concerned, and logging the operations involved. Its salient advantages include optimised resource utilisation and enhanced dependability.

In addition, a new cellar concept called TwinPro has design-enhanced the field-proven double-seat-valve technology in a decentralised configuration for fully automated cellar systems. The paramount goal here was to reduce the operating costs while maintaining the requisite high standard of hygiene and excellent product quality. The new cellar concept is based on double-seat valves grouped together in filling and emptying blocks.

Krones AG has premiered a new solution for brewing processes, called Boreas, designed to ensure controlled evaporation of unwanted aromatics from the hot wort. The salient features of this process are its small space requirement, its easy retrofittability, and a mode of operation that does not need a vacuum or any additional thermal energy. Depending on the starting level involved, Boreas can achieve DMS reduction rates of up to 70 per cent.

Now Steinecker’s innovative range of technologies is also available to breweries with a brew size comprising 50 to 100 hectolitres of cast wort. With the compactly dimensioned CombiCube B brewhouse, Krones has matched high-performance technology to mid-tier breweries’ requirements. The CombiCube B offers technology fully equal to the large vessels. With an output of up to ten brews a day, the new CombiCube B brewhouse can reach an annual production figure of up to 150,000 hl.
