Botec Process Control Technology for the entire whisky production plant
John Dewar & Sons Ltd., part of the Bacardi Group, with five distilleries in Scotland is one of the most important producers of Scotch whisky. Some of the whisky is produced in Aultmore, Scotland.
The modernisation of mash processing included the installation of a Krones Botec automation and process control system with a MS Windows NT operating system. Malt transport, the mash tun, disposal of spent grains (discharge and silo), wort cooling, the yeast dissolving and dosing system, the wash backs (wash receiver), the water household and the CIP system are integrated in this control system. This brings the company to the state of the art, taking into account the requirements and the high demands of a traditional whisky distillery. Batch-oriented production in particular, which is relevant for the production of spirits, requires special precautions concerning the automation solution. Representation and automatic control from start to end of production, processing of message signals or status signals support the producer in daily operation and provide maximum efficiency and quality. The product and its quality are the focus of all processes.
Botec allows for remote maintenance of the integrated plants by means of modem. Trouble-shooting and modifications can accordingly be performed inexpensively online.
Krones process control technology guarantees reproducibility of process sequences. Furthermore, this Krones IT solution allows for connection with a higher-order ERP system.
